Angry Young Man Tells Foodtown What's What

From Brendan, an old man trapped in the body of a 32-year-old:

Hi there,

I feel compelled to write you again about the poor quality of staff and store! I no longer buy vegetables from Foodtown because of the rotten tomatoes with fruit flies all around. Your vegetable section is TERRIBLE. I worry that yogurt is spoiled, frozen food freezer burned, condiments gone bad. Every single time, right near the store entrance, fruit flies, really? Yikes, does no one working there notice or care?

Second, your teenage staff is running the place into the ground, spending more time schmoozing and rolling eyes than actually doing their jobs. Last night, I made my way to the store to attempt to buy kitty litter. I rushed to the store to get there before the 9 pm closing time (all the way from Elmhurst on the bus). When I arrived at 8:45 (just to buy kitty litter mind you), the door was locked. I waited until someone left the store and entered through the exit, where a snotty staff member told me it was already 9. I noted, "No, it is not" and then she insisted they close the store at 8:45. I again noted, no you don't, you close at 9, as posted at the door. Then she finally said, "We close 15 minutes early to get everyone out by 9." I wonder what good are store hours? I got out of there faster than people in the store before me since I was buying TWO items.

I only go to your "store" these days to buy kitty litter; your prices aren't any better than Associated or Key Food, your better maintained neighbors in the neighborhood. I can't help but wonder what sort of health code violations are occurring every day at your store, and have considered calling the health department.

May I recommend you hire better staff? Not the kids that run around acting childlike, but rather actual adults with a sense of responsibility? You should train your staff on customer service, so I don't feel enraged every time I go to your run-down store! You need to closely monitor food quality, because if I see one more spoiled tomato or another expired condiment I will contact the health department!

Note to management, you give Foodtown a bad name, and I wonder how much more the fine people of Sunnyside are willing to put up with this nonsense? I imagine you don't want a boycott organized against your store, so I recommend making significant changes.

Thank you,

Brendan

I will have to agree about the quality of products at Foodtown. The fruit and vegetable section is terrible. I never buy from this section but prefer the vegetable market across the street. The workers do not think of customers. Often the aisles are crowded with boxes of items being put on the shelves and it is almost impossible to get by. In the dairy section it seems that there are boxes there permanently and you have to go to another aisle if you want to get to the other end. There are always a couple of employees there slowly putting milk, etc. out while talking. You have to carefully check the expiration dates. One day I heard these two kids in the dairy section talking about the dates. One did not want to put outdated things out, but the other said that most people wouldn't notice so why not. Needless to say I try not to go there anymore.

There are so many great stores (both supermarkets and little specialty markets) in Sunnyside, no reason to bother going to such a horrid place. But, pay tell, why all the way from Elmhurst to buy kitty litter? Gotta be an easier place to shop for that. Try Wonder Kitty Super Puppy

Ha, that is funny - I am the sender of said complaint. I meant that I was rushing home from that neighborhood in time to reach the store before it closed. Thanks for pointing that out.

MYTH

1.Two Dairy men openly discussing dates in front of customers and putting up outdated stuff?

2. And a Dirty Fruit section and crowded dairy section.

3. Narrow Isles.

TROUBLING

1. A 32yr old man who comes all the way from Elmhurst to buy kitty litter 15 minutes before the store closes. CO COO CLOCK. COCO PUFF CRAZY!!
GET A LIFE!!

I happen to have worked at the said store and no one openly puts out outdated stuff.

ARE YOU KIdding Me??
You would be fired on the spot!

The TRUTH

1. The produce section is manned by two men One in the morning and another in the evening. Fresh produce was received 3 days during the week.
The grapes were gotten from a special seller in California by Owner Noah Katz himself. Produce arrives in air conditioned trucks & all extra produce is always put in air conditioned rooms. Go ask your corner fruit stand if they have that?

Yes, Items in the diary do expire. We did our best to remove them six days before expiration Date. We also refund or exchange items if a customer is not satisfied. Sometimes the very customers complaining about expired yogurts asked for food town yogurts as we are taking them off the shelf. Why? Because expired FT yogurts can't be reclaimed and are good even after expiration.

Did you know that We were the only seller that had our frozen and dairy sections at required temperature during the black out!
The owner even went ahead and got a generator the very next day.
Did your lovely ASSOCIATED & KEY FOOD DO THIS? NO. We were witnesses to their high 50's temp.

Also we did get milk delivery 3 times a week including fresh organics twice a week. MIlk is taken out 6days before expiration of the earlier date.

In the grocery section, We always rotated items every pack out

Also for your information we had more than enough appliances to combat mere fruit flies.

Yes the staff is YOUNG because the pay is CRAPPY and you customers treat us Like SHIT every chance you get.
We are humans also. We are not morons. We are engineering, economics, public health, education, Pharmacy, psychology and biochem majors. We have loved ones and we bleed also.

If you hate it so much then don't shop there. If you don't believe me
contact contact Noah and he will personally let you tour the whole place yourself !!!

This author is 100 percent correct. Special speller means cheap seller.

Why would anyone need to get grapes all the way from california. Getting it closer to NY would be fresher. That is how cheap the foodtown company is. That is why they are shutting down in ozone park. Their supermarkert ranks one of the worst.

How were you witnesses to that? You broke in and checked it out personally. Don't bring that bullshit here. Foodtown sucks and they treat their employees like shit.
